SsangYong Tivoli SUV revealed

SsangYong’s compact SUV, codenamed the X100, has been revealed as a production model, christened Tivoli. This name has interestingly been inspired by the city of Tivoli in Italy.
The XIV-Air and the XIV-Adventure were designed based on the new SsangYong design language. Looking at the pictures that have been revealed, the design of the final car resembles the one on the concept cars. The XIV-Air was sportier, while the XIV-Adventure incorporated more off-road inspired elements. The Tivoli is a combination of both the Air and the Adventure.
On the inside, the cabin is rather well-equipped, with a large touchscreen as a part of the infotainment system, a flat bottomed steering wheel, and an easy-to-read multi-information display. Seven airbags, a dual-zone climate control and a rearview camera will be offered on the top-specced international car, however, the one for India might only get some of these features.
Engine wise, 1.6-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel units are rumored to make its way to the Tivoli, however there is no official word from the Korean carmaker on that front. A hybrid version of the car, which combines the diesel engine with an electric one is also in the works, reportedly.
The Tivoli is expected to be officially unveiled in Korea in January 2015, and to go on sale internationally towards the end of the second quarter. It will come to India towards the end of 2015.

Hyundai Reveals 2015 Sonata Hybrid

Hyundai has revealed the 2015 Sonata Hybrid in an event in Seoul yesterday. Comparing with the on-going Sonata Hybrid (not on sale in India), Hyundai says the 2015 Sonata Hybrid has improved marginally in almost every department from efficiency to performance. Moreover, the Korean automaker says, more info on the plug-in hybrid vehicle will be released at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, Detroit, U.S next month.
The launch of our all-new Sonata Hybrid, with its class-leading fuel economy and powerful driving performance, comes at a time when eco-friendly vehicles are becoming established as a mainstream car,” commented  Mr. Jin Kwak, Hyundai Motor’s Executive Vice President.
Our latest offering, based on one of our best-selling models, underscores our efforts to meet the growing popularity of eco-friendly vehicles around the world,” he further added.
The 2015 Sonata Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter GDI (Gas Direct Injection) petrol motor mustering 156 PS and peak torque of 189 Nm. The Electric motor on the other hand, hums 51 PS of max power and 205 Nm of torque. The coupled output presumably exceeds over 200 PS and torque close to 390 Nm. The powertrain is mated to six-speed automatic transmission to minimize energy loss. Speaking of the battery pack, the all-new Sonata Hybrid draws power from a lithium-polymer battery pack placed at the trunk floor with a capacity of 1.62 kilowatt-hour. The green vehicle delivers 18.2 kmpl riding on 16-inch radial while on 17-inch wheels, the overall fuel economy drops to 17.7 kmpl.

Mercedes-Benz India launched CLA-Class

After introducing the performance-oriented CLA 45 AMG in July, Mercedes-Benz India is now ready to bring-in its regular version, the CLA sedan. To be launched on the 20th of next month, the entry-level luxury sedan will primarily go up against the cheapest Audi in the country, the A3 saloon.
Just like the AMG version, the CLA is also based on the familiar MFA (Mercedes Front-wheel drive Architecture) platform, that underpins all the front-wheel drive products from the brand's portfolio available in the country, such as A-, B- and the GLA-Class. Mercedes will most likely launch the CLA-Class with both petrol and diesel engine options right from the beginning, unlike its other offerings, which were offered with petrol mills initially.
The petrol variants of the CLA will be powered by a 2.0-litre engine, while being a diesel loving country, a 2.2-litre oil-burner will make its way under the hood of diesel variants. A 7G-DCT automatic transmission with a dual clutch setup will come as standard across all variants. No 4Matic versions (unlike the CLA 45 and GLA 45 AMG) will be offered, though. The CLA will be positioned below the recently launched C Class, and give Mercedes a chance to grasp a major chunk of sales in the premium compact sedan segment.

Audi A3 Cabriolet vs Mini Cooper Convertible

Audi India brought-in the soft top version of its popular A3 sedan, they call it, A3 Cabriolet. The drop-top is priced at Rs. 44.75 Lacs (Ex-Showroom New Delhi) in the country and is imported as CBU (Completely Built Units). Speaking of its competitors, there’s only one rival left for the Audi’s drop-top that is Mini Convertible since BMW did not sell 3 series convertible anymore. Let’s see how the cheaper Mini Cooper Convertible (Rs. 34.80 Lac - Ex-Showroom Delhi) stack against the A3 Cabriolet!

EXTERIORS AND INTERIORS:

Talking in terms of sheer size, A3 has an edge over Cooper Convertible with over 4m - 4.4m length compared to Mini’s 3.7m. A3 Cabriolet is based on the sedan, while Cooper Convertible is crafted from the Cooper hatch. Mini has its quintessential retro feel while Audi looks contemporary. Speaking of the features, both the cars features Bi-xenon headlamps along with daytime running lamps (Mini offers non LED DRLs) and LED taillamps. About the soft-top, Mini Cooper’s top can be retracted under 19 seconds while Audi’s roof can be retracted under 18 seconds and at speeds up to 50 kmph, Mini does it around 30kmph.
On the interiors, A3 Cabriolet borrows the dashboard from the sedan while Cooper Convertible borrows it from the hatch. The Audi offers an elegant and less claustrophobic design to dash, Mini on the other hand continues to its classic retroness and offers a quirky looking dashboard. Adding on the infotainment system, A3 Cabriolet offers a 7-inch pop-out screen featuring Audi’s MMI along with a touch pad while Mini offers a central speedometer mounted MID (Multi-information-Display). Like the Audi, Mini's unit is also a non-touch display and is controlled by a joystick placed behind the gear lever.
SPECifications:

ENGINE, PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY:

A3 Cabriolet clearly excels on paper when it comes to engine specs, courtesy to bigger turbo charged 1.8-liter TFSI petrol motor compared to Mini Cooper Convertible’s naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine. Audi’s 1798cc engine chucks out 177 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. While Mini’s 1.6-liter 1598 cc musters 122 bhp and 160 Nm of max torque. Speaking of the transmission, Audi offers a modern dual-clutch 7-Speed S-Tronic automatic box compared to Mini’s 6-Speed automatic unit. With the bigger block Audi zooms from 0 to 100kmph in 7.8 seconds while Mini takes 11.1 seconds.

SAFETY:

The A3 Cabriolet comes loaded with seven airbags - dual front airbags, front side airbags along with head airbags and driver’s knee airbag. Apart from these A3 Cabriolet comes with Active rollover protection, ESC - Electronic Stability Control along with electronic limited-slip differential. The Mini Convertible on the other hand will offer four airbags - dual front airbags along with head/thorax airbags. Similar to the A3, Mini also offers Dynamic Stability Control and Active Roll Over Bar. Moreover, Adaptive headlights and Dynamic Traction Control are optional features on Mini.

Volvo Introduces Plug-in Hybrid Version of India Bound XC90 - T8

‘THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL AND CLEANEST SUV’ - 400 HP OF POWER 640 NM OF TORQUE WITH 59G/KM CO2 EMISSIONS!

Volvo has revealed a plug-in hybrid version of its new flagship SUV christened as XC90 T8. The 7-seater SUV uses power from an efficient 2.0-liter Drive-E petrol engine coupled with an electric motor and delivers it to the wheels using an 8-speed automatic transmission. The T8 version looks identical to the 2015 XC90 with subtle changes both inside-out. Moreover, the new XC90 (non-hybrid) will enter India somewhere in 2015.

DRIVE MODE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Volvo XC90 T8 offers five driving modes - Hybrid (the default mode), Pure Electric, Power, AWD (All-wheel drive) and Save. In the Pure Electric mode, XC90 T8 drive solely on electricity power, delivering a range of 25 miles (nearly 40+ km). Power mode - uses both electric motor and IC engine and extract the best possible for performance. The AWD mode provides constant power to all the four wheels. The save mode ‘freezes’ the batteries for later ‘Pure Electric’ drive. Lastly, Hybrid, the default mode, delivers the best possible fuel efficiency with a range nearly of 740 km.
The internal combustion engine in this hybrid powertrain is a  ‘specially modified’ version of the Volvo’s 2.0-liter 4-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged Drive-E petrol motor. The engines chucks out a max power of 318 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque.

Electric Motor - The electric motor in the XC90 T8 sits on the rear axles and delivers max power of 82 hp with a torque of 240 Nm.
Batteries - As XC90 - T8 draws power from two sources present on both the axles. Volvo uses the missing differential space to house the high voltage batteries keeping the space for three rows intact. The high-voltage 270–400 volt battery, delivers 65 kW of power.
Transmission - The hybrid drivetrain is handled by an 8-speed automatic transmission and features shift-by-wire technology. The trany sports a large oil pump to aptly lubricate during electric drive and quickly build-up pressure when shifting from electric to combustion drive.
CGIS - The Crankshaft-mounted Starter Generator (CISG) performs multiple functions in the XC90 T8. Its major function is to seamlessly shift the electric drive to combustion drive and it's also a powerful electric generator. Moreover, with the powerful 34Kw motor (nearly 45 hp) it works like an electric engine booster working in conjunction with supercharger and turbocharger, can provide up to 150 Nm of extra torque.

Ferrari Reveals FXX K

Musters an Output of 1035bhp

Ferrari’s latest track-only, experimental iteration comes in the form of FXX K. Apart from embracing a unique name, the car also embraces V12-plus-electric engine which develops a jaw dropping output of 1035bhp about 101bhp more than the standard model LaFerrari FXX. Out of blistering power of 1035bhp, 847.89bhp comes straight from the 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 heart and the remaining 187.32bhp from the electric motor. The car delivers a peak torque of more than 900Nm.

The K in its moniker is a reference to the “KERS” kinetic energy recovery system it adopts in maximizing its track performance. At the front, the car gets double-deck spoiler, with vertical fins that channel air over the car's flanks, enhancing the efficiency and aerodynamic nature of the car. In terms of dimensions, the car measures 4896 mm in length, 2051 mm in width and have a wheelbase of about 2650 mm.
New in the Ferrari FXX K is the overhauled internal combustion engine, new camshafts, redesigned intake manifolds. Apart from the specifications changed in engine assembly, there is modified valve train with mechanical tappets rather than hydraulic ones. The car rides on the sporty mighty trick-sounding Pirelli tyres with embedded sensors for feeding back information on longitudinal, lateral and radial acceleration. Now the word on the 0 to 100 mark is still in dark, but expect the car to show the acceleration of less than 2.9 seconds. For the maximum power transfer, the engine is mated to 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Cars You Need to See from the 2014 L.A. Auto Show

2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

It doesn't matter if you're a Ford guy, a Chevy guy, or an Isuzu guy—they exist!—it's difficult to find fault with the 2016 Mustang Shelby GT350. That's because, even if you rally for a different team, Ford's creation will spur fiercer competition among the muscle-car set, and possibly beyond. You think the Chevy Camaro Z/28 is good now? Just wait until GM gets a load of this and benchmarks it for the next-generation, lighter-weight Camaro.

Under that striped, mean-lookin' hood sits a 5.2-liter V-8 with a Ferrari-style flat-plane crankshaft. We don't have final output figures yet, and as you can imagine, that bugs the crap out of us. But expect more than 500 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

A full complement of track-ready suspension and braking components means the new GT350 channels the now-defunct Mustang Boss 302 model's aura. Actually, it doesn't so much channel it as chop it up and snort it.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Cup Race Car

Fresh off of our high from seeing the new fourth-generation MX-5 Miata for the first time just a few months ago, this racing version came along and spiked our adrenaline levels all over again.

The MX-5 Miata Cup car, as it's being called, will compete in a new global single-make Miata racing series.

Mazda has yet to reveal the Cup car's final specifications, but it'll receive a similar performance-enhancing regimen to today's spec Miata race cars. That means upgrades to the exhaust, suspension, intake, and brakes.

The MX-5 Miata Cup car will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and is expected to weigh about the same as the roadgoing Miata (2300 pounds or so).

Now for the best part: This MX-5 Miata race car not only is expected to cost less than $50,000, but it'll also arrive totally turn-key from Mazda. Previous Miata racers came with "some assembly required" tags. We of course dig building cars, but it's tough to argue against such a streamlined purchase process.
